“Bulgogi,” which roughly translates to “fired meat” in English, is a centuries-old Korean traditional dish featuring thinly sliced meat, generally beef, that is marinated and then grilled. The meat’s complex marinade is a rich combination of ingredients that balances five essential flavors: salty, sweet, spicy, sour, and bitter. Typically, the marinade includes soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, and pepper, and sometimes other ingredients such as ginger, onions, chile flakes, or scallions. Once the meat is seared and caramelized, bulgogi is served wrapped in fresh lettuce leaves along with steamed rice and additional condiments like gochujang, a widely celebrated Korean chile-based condiment.

1. Preheat oven to 425F. Apply cooking spray to sheet pan.
2. Combine contents of packet with 1 lb. flank steak, 4 cups assorted vegetables, and 1 tbsp oil.
3. Spread evenly on sheet pan with beef in center and veggies around outside.
4. Bake 20-25 min. Serve over rice.
