Black Truffle Sea Salt is an earthy, umami-rich finishing salt that features prized black summer truffles and natural white sea salt.
Black summer truffles are some of the most prized mushrooms in the world both for their scarcity as well as their unique, earthy flavor. Though notoriously hard to pin down, notes of garlic, wild mushroom, and hazelnut can all be found in the flavor of a truffle. Truffles grow 3 to 12 inches underground in a symbiotic relationship with the roots of chestnut, oak, hazel, and beech trees. Because they are molded and shaped by the stones that surround them in the soil, truffles have a rough, bumpy surface. When mature, truffles are dark brown to nearly black, while the inside of their flesh is pale beige with white marbling. They can range in size from that of a walnut to that of a fist.
Black Truffle Sea Salt is best used as a finishing salt for mild, cream-based sauces, potato dishes, and risottos that will really let the unique flavor shine through.
