Description

Nashville Hot Chicken Seasoning celebrates the well-known fiery flavor of Nashville’s most famous fried chicken dish. A balance of spicy, sweet, and savory flavors are created through the combination of cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, and a medley of herbs and spices that make this blend shine.

The exact origins of the Nashville Hot Chicken dish aren’t confirmed, however, Thornton Prince – the eponymous restaurant founder – and his enraged girlfriend are thought to be who to thank for this popular dish. Allegedly, Prince’s girlfriend discovered that Prince was engaging in infidelity and decided to get revenge in the form of chicken by pouring a large amount of hot pepper onto the fried chicken that she prepared for him. However, to her surprise, Prince loved the spicy chicken and her attempted revenge was a remarkable failure. Prince and his brothers perfected the recipe and opened up their own restaurant, Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack. Although Prince’s lover left, the chicken recipe remained and became a late-night staple, with restaurants specializing in hot chicken popping up all throughout Nashville. Over 80 years later, Prince’s restaurant is still in business and Nashville Hot Chicken remains a Nashville specialty.

Curious Spoon’s Nashville Hot Chicken Seasoning is a simple and fun way to help make this Tennessee-favorite in your home kitchen. Add the seasoning to your fried chicken batter or use it to baste the chicken immediately after it comes out of the hot oil. The seasoning can also be added to chilis and stews for extra heat or blended with mayonnaise for a spicy dip.
